We are members of the Ideal Alpaca Community. The IAC is a group of like-minded farms, ranches, and individuals who strive to use science and standards in their breeding programs, in order to develop genetically superior alpacas producing high volumes of fine fleece. In short, as the alpaca industry develops, we intend to be serious breeders producing consistently some of the best animals in the business.
The Studmaster program is an integral part of the Ideal Alpaca Community. These pre-potent, impact males and others of their quality, are the means used to produce ideal type progeny. Many ranches and farms purchase shares in these Studmaster males, bringing tested, pre-potent genetics to locations around the country. Tryphon Farm Alpacas owns a share in Studmaster male MFI Peruvian Providence, and we feel fortunate to be able to bring a male of this caliber to our farm each spring.
An early proponent of using EPD's as part of thoughtful, educated breeding decisions, the Ideal Alpaca Community constitutes a virtual herd with a wealth of breeding information available in relation to its impact sires and other animals. As the IAC moves ahead, increases participation in its EPD program, and educates its members on the true advantage EPDs present breeders in all livestock breeding enterprises, the community will take an early lead in using this tool to inform breeding decisions and to rapidly improve herd quality.
